Laura
Laura is our Head of GCSE Spanish at JTC Education. As is a native Spanish and English speaker, who has been teaching Spanish since 2016, she has acquired both an extensive network of advisors (Examiners & Certified Textbook Authors) and exceptional knowledge of (I)GCSE, A-Level and IB specifications which has helped her students to achieve top grades across all levels. Laura’s experience has shown her that languages are learned most effectively in meaningful contexts. The best results are attained beyond rote memorization of vocabulary and grammar rules, and so provides each student with additional work that is based on authentic materials, real-life situations, and relevant exam topics to make learning more engaging and applicable to her pupils' lives. It is through this engagement, and careful attention to specification points, that Laura is able to make Spanish grades fly. She brings to the team a fresh way of tutoring languages, using technology to bring her lessons to life in a way that others don’t. The premium platforms she provides access to help students to reach their potential across all the integrated skills they will be we tested on (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing).
Tutoring Experience
Laura’s tutoring journey began in 2016 while studying for her BA (Hons) in Spanish and Politics from Newcastle University where she attained a high distinction grade in Academic/Professional Spanish and her dissertation (2020). In the course of this time, she provided face-to-face tuition for Private School GCSE pupils in the North East of England, achieving 100% A*/A grades. During Laura's intercalating year (2018/2019), she enhanced her pedagogical skills by teaching English at a Chilean University for the British Council. On the weekends, she volunteered as an English Teacher for 'the Access Microscholarship Programme' supported by the U.S. Department of State, providing a foundation of English language skills to bright, economically disadvantaged students. In 2021, Laura was ranked as an ambassador and 1st in London for online Spanish Tuition, and soon began her Journey with JTC Education. During this time, 90% of her students achieved grade 8/9 at GCSE or an A*/A at A Level. Alongside teaching, She completed her MSc in Globalisation and Latin American Development at UCL, consistently ranked among the top 10 universities worldwide, and volunteered as Spanish/English copywriter and grant researcher for a Latin American Medical Charity, based in the UK.
