Joanna is a full-time professional tutor and English examiner for Cambridge and the International Baccalaureate. Starting her career in education in 2006, she has taught in classrooms as well as tutored students and trained other teachers.
She has a record of every student to date (whether group or 1-1) having increased their grade by final exams. Joanna achieves this through a thorough understanding of the requirements of the exam boards, an ability to understand and map individual student progress, and the ability to form caring relationships which generate a safe space where progress can flourish.
A notable 2022 success for Joanna, was enabling a struggling student with a Special Educational Need to move from a Grade 2, to a passing Grade 5 at GCSE, enabling him to move on to the next stage of his academic career. Joanna’s educational mission to ensure all her students reach their full potential.
Joanna has gained experience teaching KS3, GCSE, MYP and IB DP English across 15 years, 6 different schools and 4 countries. During her career in education she has long been and still remains an examiner for Cambridge IGCSE and IB Diploma exam boards, having further worked as an Extended Essay Supervisor and Dormitory Mistress. Joanna directed her teaching career towards online tutoring in 2021, where she guided students through their GCSEs and IB exams with every student seeing an increase in their final grade.
Outside of tutoring, Joanna has worked as an IBDP teacher trainer, created the IBDP English Language & Literature / IBDP Literature curriculum for 3 schools, and developed educational materials for renowned websites and textbooks alike. She is also involved in supporting CIE’s new digital mock exams from January 2026, helping schools trial and transition to the future of digital assessments.
Notably, 2023 proved to be a fantastic year for results for Joanna, with every JTC student achieving a top grade (9 or A*).
Thank you so much for supporting and guiding my daughter in her iGCSE. Despite having never achieved anything higher than an 8 in class, she actually got a 9 for her English Language exam! She is thrilled with this and has already asked if Joanna can support her in her IBDP course next year. Couldn't have done it without you!

Thanks to Joanna’s help my son achieved a 5 in English Language and was able to start his apprenticeship. He is doing so well that they are fast-tracking him to college part-time to enable him to get onto the management route. He loves what he is doing and we are all aware that he is only able to be there because of Joana and her hard work with him.
