With over 13 years of teaching experience, a BA in Geography and History, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Edinburgh, Brian combines strong academic foundations with a diverse toolkit of pedagogical methods.
Throughout his career, alongside his classroom teaching, he has held senior leadership roles including Year Head, Head of Department, Head of Pastoral Care, and Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator. As an examiner for several major exam boards, he is able to share invaluable insight into assessment criteria, ensuring that, beyond the content, students are equipped with the skills to demonstrate their knowledge with precision and confidence under exam conditions.
Since 2012, Brian has taught Geography across all major exam boards at both GCSE and A level. He was one of the first teachers in the UK to deliver the IGCSE Environmental Management course, and he also specialises in IGCSE Global Perspectives and IB Environmental Systems and Societies. His career as an educator began in UK schools before moving to the international school sector in China and later continuing in Europe, where he held a variety of roles within private education.
Passionate about online learning, Brian balances professional tutoring with the development of innovative digital tools that make distance education more engaging and effective. In his lessons, he integrates platforms such as Google Earth to help bring meaning and relevance to the subject of geography and its case studies.

Every lesson was well prepared, with engaging conversations and presentations with pictures and clear details which helped to lock in knowledge, even in boring topics ;). Brian was incredibly supportive which was exactly what my son (and myself, as his parent) needed especially when embarking on what could have been a long, stressful and unknown journey. My son learnt in one or two hours a week, more than he would have done in a classroom. His ‘notes’ were always full of colour with interesting photographs (often from trips that Brian had made). My son always looked forward to his lessons.
Brian's lesson very well structured and he spent time patiently helping my son with his question techniques and writing skills which improved significantly. In the end, he achieved an A grade and we were delighted. Above all, Brian is a kind, very competent and professional tutor whom I would have no hesitation in recommending to any potential students. Brian helped me gain more confidence with answering questions in Geography, particularly for 8 markers, which was vital for me in increasing my chances of success in my GCSEs, particularly as they are in a few weeks now. We also reviewed content and I learnt new things that we hadn’t been taught in class at school, which was very useful.
