How our GCSE/IGCSE tutors can help you

In addition to teaching content and reviewing past exam questions, our GCSE tutors go above and beyond by introducing unique study methodologies, assisting in schedule planning, and, most importantly, refining a student’s exam techniques. Our general approach to GCSE tutoring is the delivery of content followed by reinforcement through appropriate past paper strategies. Considering the distinctive demands of the GCSE 9-1 grading system, the importance of this approach cannot be understated when crafting effective GCSE/IGCSE tuition strategies.

GCSE Tutoring and IGCSE Tutoring Subjects

At JTC Education, we provide comprehensive academic support across all academic subjects and exam boards at GCSE level. Our expert GCSE tutors are proficient in English Literature, English Language, Maths, Combined Science, Triple Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), History, Economics, Computer Science, Geography, and Modern Foreign Languages (such as Spanish and French).

Online tuition for GCSE and IGCSE

GCSE students find online learning to be faster and more effective compared to in-person tuition. Advancements in technology enable tutors and students to annotate diagrams and exam questions in ways previously impossible. By simultaneously focusing on the same screen from the comfort of their homes, students are able to experience an enhanced learning experience.

Tutoring beyond GCSE level

JTC Education also offers tutoring before and beyond GCSE level, beginning from the tail end of primary school (around year 5) and extending right up to A level and undergraduate tutoring. We are further able to support academic extracurricular projects of various natures, and work with most of our students across extended periods of more than 5 years.

FAQs about GCSE/IGCSE Tutoring

The support of JTC Education’s GCSE tutors has regularly shown to increase grades at GCSE level by an average of 2 levels. With around ten subjects to balance, the presence of an expert that can deliver content more quickly and precisely than textbooks, and deepen a student’s understanding through tactical socratic questioning can prove invaluable.

The challenge of GCSE is often the amount of different subjects that must be taken. The ideal strategy involves students working regularly and consistently from the beginning of the year to avoid becoming overwhelmed at the last hurdle. Focusing on content reinforced by topic tests is a great GCSE tuition strategy for the first three quarters of the year; however, turning to full past papers under timed exam conditions is a must for the final 25% of year, such that students are familiarising themselves with the demand of exams.

It is certainly possible to put in place a strategy which covers all GCSE subjects; however, it is also important to leave some time for independent study. Typically we recommend that students receive support in core subjects (English, Science, Maths) that they are underperforming in, and any subject that they intend to pursue at A level and beyond.

The answer to this is subject-dependent. In general, it is recognised that the new 9-1 GCSE system brought about more challenging content and indeed examinations. As such, the old specifications will be mostly covered within the GCSE 9-1 specifications (e.g. science), but students may find that old specification papers are easier and less comprehensive.
